Hug Your Cat Day Collab! ๐Ÿ˜ธ

Happy Hug Your Cat Day! Did you know that June 4th was Hug Your Cat Day? I didn’t until @highchanceofpolish announced on Instagram she was organizing a collab for it, so obviously I had to join in on the kitty love.

For this manicure I used:

  • Base Coat: Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat
  • Top Coat: Cutex Quick Dry Top Coat
  • Colour Club Peppermint Twist
  • OPI Who You Callin’ Bossy
  • Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Hard To Get
  • Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Mellow Yellow
  • Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Kiwi Bikini
  • Small Nail Art Brush from Bundle Monster
  • Small Dotting Tool
  • Kitty vinyls from The Base Coat

For my design, I was inspired by my own kitties Abbath & Hades. It’s been a long time since I tried freehand kitty nails, but I think they turned out so lovely!

So what do you think of my kitty cat nails? Are you celebrating Hug Your Cat Day? I feel like wearing my kitty cat shirt just for the occasion. ๐Ÿ˜ธ & just for fun, how about my inspiration for this mani? Who doesn’t love kitty pictures?

Tribal Print Gradient Nails

I know I say this every time I do my nails, but these have to be one of my favourite gradients I’ve ever done. Seriously–just look! It turned out so pretty. I’d never claim to be a gradient expert, but damn if I don’t feel proud of how these turned out! & what does better with a gradient than a little stamping? I don’t think I’ve done any stamping since before the Lil Bubs was born, & I didn’t realize how much I missed it.

For this manicure, I used:

  • Base Coat: Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat
  • Top Coat: Cutex Quick Dry Top Coat
  • Essie Lounge Lover
  • China Glaze Glow With The Flow
  • China Glaze Plur-ple
  • Essie Butler Please
  • Yves Saint Laurent Noir Brilliant
  • Born Pretty Store Peel Off Liquid Tape
  • Born Pretty Store Stamping Plate (QA66)
  • Latex Free Make Up Sponge

Why don’t I stamp more often, seriously? Well mostly because I only have the same few stamping plates. But hopefully I can change that soon because it just makes for sure an intricate manicure. I would never freehand this design (at least not without a lot of crankiness & frustration!)

For my gradient, I started off with a basic sponged gradient & then went back over the gradient dry brushing my colours for a bit of a rustic look. It lead to an interesting blend that I really, really like.

What do you think of this mani? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! ๐Ÿ’œ

Q&A

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving everyone! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚ I hope all who celebrate are enjoying whatever goodies they had on the menu, and if you’re not celebrating I’m sending pumpkin pie vibes your way! (We’re enjoying our gluten-free pumpkin pie as we speak!) I’m a little late getting up my Q&A but better late than ever!  I was excited that quite a few people asked questions so I hope you’ll enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed answering!

Thank you everyone who asked me questions, it was really fun to be able to do this short little Q&A! And if anyone else has any questions for me you can always ask me in the comments!

Ask Me Anything

I’ve seen a few other ladies do this on Instagram so I thought it would be a fun idea to do a little Q&A!

Feel free to ask me anything about nail art, nail polish or even life in general! You can pose your questions here, on Instagram, through my Facebook, or even via my email coffeeandnailpolish (@) gmail.com!

I plan on posting my questions and answers come Monday (Canadian Thanksgiving)!  So if there was ever anything you wanted to ask me, this is your chance!

My wedding nails!ย

So I had a fairly exciting weekend–the Mr and I got married!  Obviously when we started talking wedding I couldn’t help but trying to figure out my wedding mani. I knew I wanted blue incorporated, and I knew I wanted floral. In the end they ended very different from what I had originally intended to do, but I simply loved them!

The polishes I used for this mani were:

  • China Glaze Secret Peri-wink-ke
  • Maybelline Color Show Crystal Disguise

  • Essie Big Spender
  • Icing Poppin’ Cherry

  • Yves Saint Laurent 46 Poivre Noir
  • Sally Hansen I Love Nail Art pen in Green

I also wore Sally Hansen original formula Pacific Blue on my toes which peeked out from my wedding shoes.

Have a beautiful week my loves! ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

Something Blue floral inspired by @25_sweetpeaย

So you might have noticed an abundance of floral recently, even though Fall is quickly approaching. Well that’s because I’ve been on the search for the perfect bridal manicure. That’s right… I’m getting married! A week from today!

I’ve bfinally figured out what I’m doing on my nails (with a week to go). I’ve been searching for the perfect floral mani to wear day of, and thanks to my girl @26_sweetpea I found it! She posted this beautiful mani last week, and as soon as I saw it I knew!

The other night I did a wedding mani test run using Essie Bikini So Teeny and China Glaze Secret Peri-wink-le , which are my two all time favourite blues. I was having trouble deciding which one I wanted to wear.  I’ve figured it out now (and you’ll have to wait to see what I go with!) but I wanted to share the close up of this mani.

Polishes I used for my right hand were:

  • Essie Bikini So Teeny
  • Sinful Colors Easy Going
  • QUO by ORLY Striper in White
  • Sally Hansen Mauve Over
  • ACO by Ardene Mermaid
  • OPI Mod About You
  • Essie Jiggle Hi, Jiggle Lo
  • Sally Hansen I Love Nail Art pen in green.
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Kiwi Bikini
  •  OPI You’re So Outta Lime!
  • Seche Vite

So what do toy think of this floral design? What would you dream wedding manicure look like? ๐Ÿ’

Also is anyone else as excited about the pumpkin spice latte returning as I am?! ๐ŸŽƒ it’s that time of year again and I LOVE it! โ˜•๏ธ

My first ever Instagram meet up!ย

This past weekend I got to take part in my first ever Nail Meet Up with my fellow Halifax nail bloggers! It so was exciting to get to meet up with the amazing fellow nail artists that are local!

Clockwise, from left to right:

It was so lovely to meet the fantastic ladies I follow on Instagram, and meet some new lovely girls as well! We talked all things polish and life in general which was just so much fun! It was really awesome to connect with people who don’t judge you for owning 800+ bottles of polish!

@thebasecoat was also super sweet and brought everyone a few goodies all wrapped up with pretty sparkly tissue paper (which my kitties loved rolling on–the were sparkling all day! Haha) In my gift bag I received a mini Finger Paints in a vibrant pink (no name) and China Glaze Lets Dew This from the new fall collection! Purple and blue sparkles?! My favourite! I have a feeling I’m probably going to be wearing this polish quite a bit this Fall.

For the occasion I went with some chevron moons in purple and blue– my favourite colours and design! The polishes I used for this mani were:

  • China Glaze December to Remember.
  • OPI Suzy & the 7 Dรผsseldorfs
  • Stripe Rite striping polish in Gold
  • QUO by ORLY Striper in black.
  • Seche Vite

So nice to get to spend time with such fabulous ladies, and I definitely can’t wait for the next one!

If you’re hanging around Instagram, you may have noticed an whole bunch of happy face manicures popping up on your feed. @ohmygoshpolish has ignited a movement by encouraging her fellow nail girls to create these manicures to raise awareness and take a stand against bullying, hashtagging the manicures with #itonlytakesone.

Bullying is an issue that hits home with me–like so many, I’ve experienced my share of bullying. In junior high, that bullying came in the form of girls “innocently” teasing me about my weight. Unfortunately the taunts I heard influenced my poor body image, which eventually spiraled into a serious eating disorder that I’ve dealt with for the majority of my teenage and adult years. Thankfully I’ve embraced recovery, but I still struggle with the effects of that bullying daily, even 16 years later. I doubt those girls thought what they were doing was serious, but bullying is: what you say has consequences, and bullying is never okay. Ever. In today’s society, with the prevalence of smart phones and social media, bullying is at an all time high–it’s easy to break someone down when you have the protection of a screen. That’s why it’s important that when we see it happening, we take a stand against it.

One person can (and does) make a difference.

You can check out Bystander Revolution for more information–They have some great videos that I think everyone should take a minute to watch. And if you’re on Instagram, I encourage you to create your own #itonlytakesone manicure, and show that you will stand up against bullying. =)
